LaunchCode
Description

LaunchCode is an organization that creates pathways to economic opportunity and upward mobility. (more)

LaunchCode, the latest idea of Jim McKelvey (co-founder of Square), grows out of the recognition that there is a huge IT talent gap in St.
Louis. This gap exists because new developers get training in programming courses, but don't have enough experience to find a job, while companies have open positions, but can't find developers with enough experience to fill them.
LaunchCode is filling the gap by using pair programming-- two programmers, two keyboards, one monitor-- which is the system used at Square.
Pair programming increases productivity, reduces the number of mistakes and pushes coders to work harder.
Most significantly, pair programming is the quickest way for developers to master a language gain the proficiency and competency of an experienced developer.
